if i could have an interface

Some of my original ideas included:

  • Food waste tracker

  • Letterboxd for books because Goodreads is a travesty of an app

  • Something to tell me where my stuff is

  • An electronic that tells me what my plant needs so I don't kill it

  • How is my pet feeling

  • Is my pasta, rice, etc. done

I decided to go with an idea inspired by the movie Clueless where she has this device for her closet that helps her pick out clothes.

When thinking about the problems associated with figuring out what to wear I drew inspiration from this as well as from things that do exist that could be modified to assist in this way.

  1. A Closet Organizer

This one reminds me a little bit of Monster Inc., but sometimes figuring out what to wear is a matter of finding the item you were thinking about. I thought up these revolving racks and shelves for a closet. The only problem is that it'd be expensive. However, it would assist people in being able to find items and help organization. You pick a category on the panel and the closet brings that shelf or rack to you.

2. A Jacket Reminder (could expand to include masks)

I don't always check the weather forecast, and having something to do it for me and then send me a notification to wear a jacket if it rains or snows would be nice. This could be expanded to masks when you leave your home since there have been a many occasions when I have left and had to turn back to get it. Something I find a little creepy is when Maps is pulled up and it brings me directions to my work or it tells me the estimated time to go to school without me asking. Everything tracks where you are which is concerning but at least this would helpful. If it senses me leaving, reminding me to get jacket and my mask would be neat and also encourages safety and consideration for others.

3. What to Wear When Your Travel

I always try to match the style of the place I'm traveling to. I prep for this by reading a ton of travel blogs however a lot of them are super dated or lead to over packing (or under packing), or sometimes just not representative of what people actually wear. Because it is one person's experience, sometimes the recommendations can be specific to a fault. While sometimes it is really useful (ex. don't bring umbrellas to Scotland, just invest in a raincoat), I don't really base what I pack on those blogs. What I found to be the most useful was looking at the geotags on Instagram to get a better sense of how people dress. This also could be a hit or miss though since people tend to look their best on social media. What I came up with was a website that could track sales at clothes companies and clothes trends to show people similar to how Spotify has a top 50 for different countries. This way it's actually representative of what people wear and buy.

4. Find my Size or Similar

This one actually exists but only on a store's specific app or website which is a little annoying. Having one place where you can scan an item and find a store that carries your size would be so helpful. Another thing would be finding something similar. Pinterest kind of does this with pins and they have added a shopping feature, however a lot of their links are dead. This could be helpful for finding cheaper items or a substitute if you don't like a brand or they don't have your size nearby.

5. "Vanity" Mirror or your very own hype man

Sometimes the issue isn't finding the clothes but the confidence to wear something. Even if this is artificial, it can be a matter of just getting out of one's own head. This was an audio interface that essentially just hypes you up.
