I wanted to make a concrete rose for the last project, but that would have gone against the "all concrete rule" so it was metal's turn to shine literally and figuratively.
PROCESS
I based my process off this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhV28i2uNJo
I hand drew my templates. I made the little baby leafs underneath way too big, but it all worked out. I then cut pieces of metal. At first the one I cut was too thick to bend, and I noticed thinner metal in the shop so I re-cut that. I used the mini engraving tool to cut. I was having a hard time using the snips cutting pieces from the larger sheet. I then traced the patterns onto the metal. Using the snips, I cut little pieces at a time away until I was left with just the petal shapes. I then smoothed edges down so they weren't sharp where the cutting was a little sloppy. I cut slits between each petal for when it was going to be bent up. I drilled holes in the center, and using this little metal wire I found in the trash (good stuff), I slid the petals down. I clamped the stem to a table so it wouldn't move, and began to shape the rose.
