lab 4 - spooky

Updated: Aug 30, 2019

I went into this wanting to make a dollhouse but with a spooky twist. The model was built with the curves in mind. I thought about how each of them would work together and how I would be taking it apart as well as proportions. In a way, I thought about it like Lab 3 with unfolding. I modeled thinking about how it would be taken a part in put back together. I built the base first then added a roof, porch, doors, windows, and the floors. I still have a couple things to figure out like joints and how I want to make the windows work.

Modeling consisted of a lot of boxes (then exploding those boxes and extruding), planar srf functions, and extruding those. For windows, I used a lot of boolean difference. The functions were simplistic but it was tougher to get the thickness of the the possible material and to figure out how I was going to build it once I had all the pieces.

PLAN FOR PUTTING IT TOGETHER:

Wood (laser cut): The main structure of the house and flooring.

Cardboard (laser cut): Roof (bends)

Acrylic (laser cut): Windows

3D Print: doors (and my own modeled hinge for those), possible porch railing since I need it to be thin.

separate parts: hinge, screws, and bolts.

Paint: last and decorative

.

A lot of my renders had issues with reflectivity. I lowered that and captured these. The idea was to have them be in a playroom.

MODELS: dollhouse, ring toy, bea, bag chair, and a bookshelf.

I completed all the necessary orientations to use the laser cutter by myself in the ITLL so I can go there. My next plan of business is to get the materials so I can finalize scaling stuff. I also need to test some joints to making sure I can put the walls together.
