Week 3 Progress
Updated: Feb 2, 2021
What were your goals for this week?
Organize Research
More productive on writing for game
Develop character cards and test
Develop endgames and test
What did you accomplish, please reflect on your time management. What worked or didn't?
This week was a little bit of a struggle in terms of time management. All of my other classes kicked off so I was tighter on time, and didn't manage what I had as well as a I should have.
What I did get done:
I began building out an Google Sheet that would serve as a one stop destination for all of my research and card writings.
I did get the initial build done, but I'm still in the process of syncing up my handwritten notes and some analysis. This was important so I could find all my research and have a database of sorts, but also I will have to credit a lot of resources since this is part research project and this will save me time further down the line. It also shows me where quantitatively I am in the process.
I was also able to write several more cards after researching some more pieces.
I talked about wanting to have different endgames, so I spent some time researching different people and how they died. It's a little morbid, but I was able to create some cards that I can test.
I also came up with four more room activities. As of now, I only had one room activity for the greed room.
I also typed up a rough rule sheet and a turn summary card.
There was some confusion when I last playtest about what they could do as well as how tokens work. I added this to the character cards to act as a sort of cheat sheet.
I did make some modifications to the consequences on the cards as well as some character powers since there was too much power with my artist card the last round. I wanted to encourage perhaps taking from other players.
TESTING!
I wasn't able to schedule a time to test last week but I do have two sessions planned for this week: Tuesday and Friday.
How did you integrate feedback?
I made subtle changes to my cards and created an asset to help with some confusion that players had while playing. This will help playtest sessions run a little smoother.
What was unexpected / what lessons did you learn?
That spreadsheets are a pain, but also they help.
I have the initial mechanics of the game built out, but I also need to stay on top of research as I will be wrapping that up by the end of next week.
